When You’re Tired of Being Strong
Finding Rest When You’ve Been Carrying Too Much
Matthew 11:28
There’s a kind of tired that sleep doesn’t fix. It’s not just physical or emotional. It’s the kind of tired that comes from holding everything together for too long. You’ve been the strong one. The dependable one and the one everyone leans on.
You show up.
You push through.
You keep going… even when you feel like you’re running on empty.
Lately, you’ve been thinking:
“I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this.”
If that’s where you are right now, take a deep breath. You are not alone. More importantly… you were never meant to carry it all by yourself.
When Strength Becomes Heavy
Strength is often praised.
We’re told to be resilient. To keep going and to stay strong no matter what. But there’s a quiet truth we don’t talk about enough:
Even strong women get tired.
Sometimes, the very strength that helped you survive becomes the weight that begins to wear you down. Because strength, when carried too long without rest, turns into exhaustion.
You may not say it out loud, but inside you feel:
• overwhelmed
• emotionally drained
• mentally exhausted
• spiritually disconnected
And yet… you keep showing up anyway.
The Invisible Exhaustion
One of the hardest parts about this kind of weariness is that most people don’t see it. They see your strength,
reliability, and how much you can handle.
But they don’t always see:
• the silent tears
• the mental load you carry
• the pressure you feel
• the moments you just want to stop
So, you keep going because that’s what you’ve always done. But just because you can carry it doesn’t mean you were meant to carry it alone.
God Sees What No One Else Sees
Here’s what you need to hear today: God sees what no one else sees.
He sees the strength you’ve been pouring out, the battles you haven’t told anyone about, and the moments you almost gave up, but didn’t. Nothing about your exhaustion is invisible to God. And more than that—God never asked you to do this alone.
The Invitation You Might Be Missing
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Notice what God doesn’t say.
God doesn’t say:
“Keep pushing.”
“Be stronger.”
“Figure it out.”
God says:
“Come.”
God's call to come is not about performance, pretending, or proving our worth.
God simply calls us to come to Him. Because real strength isn’t found in how much you can carry. It’s found in knowing when to lay it down.
You Don’t Have to Be Strong Today
Maybe, today looks different. Maybe, today isn’t about holding everything together.
Maybe, today is about:
• admitting you’re tired
• releasing what you can’t control
• letting God hold what you’ve been carrying
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to pause.
You are allowed to not have it all together.
Rest is not weakness.
It’s trust.
What Rest Can Look Like Right Now
Rest doesn’t always mean stopping everything.
Sometimes it looks like:
• taking a quiet moment to breathe
• stepping away from what’s overwhelming you
• saying “no” without guilt
• choosing peace over pressure
• bringing your honest feelings to God
Rest is not about escaping your life. It’s about releasing the weight you were never meant to carry alone.
A Gentle Prayer for You
God, I’m tired. I’ve been strong for so long, and I don’t have the energy anymore. Help me release what I’ve been holding onto. Remind me that I don’t have to carry everything by myself. Give me rest for my mind, my heart, and my soul. Meet me in this moment with Your peace. Amen.
You Are Still Worthy
If you’ve been measuring your worth by how much you can handle…
Let this be your reminder:
Your worth is not tied to your strength.
You don’t have to earn rest or prove anything.
Even in your tiredness…
Even in your slowing down…
Even in your need for help…
You are still worthy.
Reflection Questions
Take a moment to pause and reflect:
• What have I been carrying that I need to release?
• Where in my life do I feel the most exhausted right now?
• What would it look like to trust God with that today?
